Question: What does the Bible say about cursing?

1. The words that we choose with which to express ourselves are
important (Matt. 12:32-37).

2. Language must be characterized by reverence for God. Mt.6:9,
model prayer: "Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy
name." Hallowed means to hold something as holy, sacred, or
revered. God told the Israelites not to take his name in vain
(Deut.5:11).

3. In Rom. 3:14, Paul spoke of some "whose mouth is full of cursing
and bitterness."

4. Eph. 4:29: No corrupt communication, but that which is good for
edifying.

5. Eph. 5:4,5 condemns "filthiness, foolish talking, and jesting
which is not befitting. This would include talk that is obscene or
shameful; that which is vulgar.
